Brake Noise: A squeak, squeal, clunk, or groan that occurs when the brakes are applied or released. Brake Judder: A vibration that can be felt in the vehicle, steering wheel, or brake pedal when the brakes are applied. Pedal Feel: The effort needed to operate the brakes is too high or too low. Verify the condition by road testing the vehicle with the customer. Determine the specific brake incident based on the description in the Service Information above. Follow the appropriate repair procedure(s), listed on the following pages, for your specific incident. See this bulletin for further details. If the noise can be reduced or eliminated by a slight application of the parking brake while driving over the road where the noises are produced, the countermeasure kit described in this bullein will reduce this incident. Classification: BR9. If this occurs, difficulties with the parking brake cable operation may result. To eliminate this possibility, use proper rear lift locations as shown. CAUTION: Put the sill in the groove of the lift pad to prevent the sill from deforming. If the pad does not have a groove, prepare a suitable attachment with one. For 1. 99. 5 and 1. GI- 3. 7 and GI- 3. For 1. 99. 7, refer to the service manual pages GI- 3. GI- 4. 1. The noise may be more noticeable when backing up. Rear brake pad kits are available to correct this condition if it should occur. See this bulletin for further detail. Nissan now offers two different types of replacement pads, Nissan Original Equipment and Nissan Key Value. This bulletin describes the characteristics of the two pads and provides service information to help ensure the satisfaction of your service customers. All current Nissan vehicles are equipped at the factory with Nissan Original Equipment (OE) brake pads. The OE pads use a non- asbestos organic (NAO) compound. The NAO material provides state of the art resistance to squeal noise. These pads continue to be available as service parts and must be used if replacing brake pads under the terms of the Nissan new car warranty. These pads should be recommended to customers that prefer new car brake noise performance over price. Key Value brake pads are also available as a service part. These pads use a semi- metallic compound similar to the material used in Nissan OE pads prior to the introduction of the NAO compound pads. While Key Value brake pads offer high quality at an attractive price, the Nissan service customer may experience some brake squeal with (Update: NTB9. The incident may be intermittent and may be duplicated by releasing the brake pedal while the vehicle is stopped and then moving forward at approximately 5 mph (8 kph). This incident can be caused by a slight tension on the parking brake cable resulting in the brake pads not withdrawing completely from the surface of the rotors after release of the brake pedal. This contact results in a low frequency groan or humming noise. The groan addressed by this bulletin can occur at normal operating temperatures and is not a creep groan (occurring upon slight release of brakes permitting the vehicle to creep from a stopped position). Metal shavings that collect on the ABS wheel speed sensor may cause the ABS warning light to come on, or, may cause intermittent activation of the ABS under normal braking conditions. Refer to this Bulletin for further details. This is particularly true in areas with hot climates or for vehicles with extended or extreme usage. It is important to maintain proper electrolyte levels for optimum battery life. In many situations, the electrolyte level in a battery may already be up to the appropriate mark. However, Nissan recommends that a check of the electrolyte level be done at every scheduled maintenance interval (oil changes, etc.) to verify that the level is correct. If the electrolyte level is low, it is necessary to add distilled water to the battery to bring the level up to the correct height. This bulletin provides important tips for Genuine Nissan Original Equipment (OEM) and replacement battery maintenance. A procedure for checking battery electrolyte levels is provided for batteries with black cases and batteries with white cases. See this bulletin for detail. Should the incident occur and if there are signs of restrictions in the sunroof and antenna drain system (such as corrosion/dirt build up in the 3- way connector and dirt and rust in the drain hoses), install a new power antenna assembly and use the service procedure in this bulletin to reroute the sunroof and antenna drains. If there are no signs of restriction in the sunroof and antenna drain system, the sunroof and antenna drains do not need to be rerouted. Inspect the power antenna assembly and its wiring harness and repair as necessary. See this bulletin for details. Complete Text of this NTB/TSB. When performing an audiospeaker repair on a BOSE- equipped vehicle, replace the complete speaker/amplifier unit toensure the reliability and performance of the replacement speaker. This Bulletin explains the operation, programming and diagnosis/repair of the remote. This bulletin also supersedes NTB9. NTB9. 2- 0. 33. Most power antenna problems are caused by bent antenna rods, preventing the antenna from retracting completely. Replace only the antenna rod if the motor works OK. Battery Charging/Replacement Procedure ( NTB9. March ; 3 pages ) As demands on vehicle batteries increase with the complexity of electrical systems, there's need for a usable, consistent & repeatable procedure for determining whether a battery needs charging or replacement. It is the dealer's responsibility to determine condition/chargeability of a vehicle's battery. This bulletin details procedures & specifications for use in determining a battery's condition. This version containsupdated Service and Warranty Information including alternator and starter diagnostics. A new Special Tool has been issued to aid in diagnosis on battery, starting system, and charging system incidents. Using Kent- Moore tool #J- 4. This will help isolate and identify the incident faster, improving Customer Satisfaction and Fixed Right First Time performance. This amendment includes updated Warranty Information and Service Information including alternator and starter diagnostics. See this bulletin for further details. Use the procedure provided in this bulletin to program the remote controller.
